Royals 9, Pirates 3: Heaney, Shugart shelled in rout
The Pirates' scoreless streak ended at 30 innings tonight at Kauffman Stadium, but their losing streak continued in a 9-3 loss to the Royals amid four home runs by the home team.
Salvador Perez, Bobby Witt Jr.,Vinnie Pasquantino,and Nick Loftin each homered. Andrew Heaney allowed six hits and four earned runs over three innings, while Chase Shugart gave up four earned runs and two home runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
"I need everything to kind of be going well to go deep into the game," Heaney said. "I just didn't really have a whole lot today."
Tommy Pham hit a two-run home run in the third inning, and the Pirates added a run on Alexander Canario's single to right in the ninth. They mustered four hits and struck out eight times. Noah Cameron threw seven innings, allowed three hits and struck out seven.
